GENERAL IMPRESSION:

In the TV series Benim Adım Gültepe, four close friends living in the Gültepe district of Izmir in the 1980s; Through the eyes of Seyfi, Gülali, Fevzi and Murat, the troubles, loves, disappointments, betrayals, hidden truths and the great struggle of holding on to life in the streets of Gültepe are told. One of the main protagonists of the series is Gültepe himself, for this reason, the voice of Gültepe was done by the famous actor Nejat İşler. The series, which was broadcast in 2014, was canceled after 8 episodes were broadcast, claiming that it could not show the expected success in the ratings.

STORY:

Each street of Gültepe district has a different story, a different struggle for life. We will witness the disappointments, search for hope, and unrequited love in the neighborhood through the eyes of four close friends, Seyfi, Gülali, Fevzi and Murat, who live in the neighborhood. Gülümser (Ayça Bingöl) is the mother of Gülali of these four children. Gülümser, whose husband is in prison, is trying to stand on her feet despite everything and to take care of her son. However, she will not be able to escape from having a forbidden and secret love affair with Halil, the handsome and cut-throat minibus driver of the district. Halil, too, is in love with Gülümser. Eşref (Mete Horozoğlu) is the heavy brother of the neighborhood, who is both feared and respected.

Seyfi’s rebellious attitudes led him to work at school again. In fact, the problem is not education, but his anger towards his father, even to life and the neighborhood where he lives. An unexpected name comes to the rescue of Seyfi, who is in trouble with the school principal. This person is Fuat Bey, the new teacher of the school. Fevzi is Seyfi’s best friend. Fevzi, who lost his mother at an early age, lives with his older brother Reşat and his father Sadettin. However, his father, Sadettin, is doing secret business. It is only a matter of time for Fevzi to learn the truth about his father. The only problem of Gülali, who does not even know how to fight, is that her father Refik is in prison. His mother, gülür, who works in a knitwear workshop, was left alone after her husband was sentenced to 40 years. However, the young woman, who has not lost her commitment to life, has fallen into the clutches of forbidden love with Halil, the minibus driver of the neighborhood. When he visits his wife with his son, the cold demeanor of Gülümser does not go unnoticed by Refik, and he questions his wife. Gülümser, who has forbidden love in her mind and heart, is in a very difficult situation. Moreover, there is now a witness to his love, which he thought was living in secret from everyone. The heavy brother of the neighborhood, Eşref.

Suna, one of the oldest in the neighborhood, decides to return to her father’s home after years. However, this causes confusion. First, her sister Meziyet objects to Suna’s return to the house. Then Suna’s daughter Nazlı does not want to leave her luxurious environment and go to Gültepe. His brother Murat is ready to climb the slopes of Gültepe with his mother. Murat is a student who has been in college for years and has no knowledge of street culture. With their move to Gültepe, they will step into a completely different life.

PLACES:

The first three episodes of Benim Adım Gültepe were shot in İzmir. The continuation of the series was shot in Istanbul. The production team examined 100 neighborhoods in Istanbul for 2 months for the sequels. Kocataş Neighborhood in Sarıyer was decided as the most suitable place for İzmir-Gültepe. For the series set in the 1980s, the production team took the neighborhood 34 years back. It changed everything from the utility pole to the bus stop to the telephone booth. Slums are rented

40 slums and 6 workplaces in the neighborhood were rented. The roofs of some houses were poured and turned into terraces. The production team, which revived the Kocataş District, also touched the surrounding streets. He repaired some of the places to be shot here from A to Z and renovated them according to the period. Asphalt and paving stones, the front of the buildings were changed.

GENERIC:

The music of the TV series Benim Adım Gültepe was composed by Uğur Akyürek. The sad generic music of the series was also loved by the audience.
