The digital platform Netflix is preparing to implement a very important project. The life of Cahide Sonku, one of the most important names in the history of Turkish theater, will be told in the new series of Netflix.
The series will be produced by BKM and directed by master director Emin Alper. Emin Alper, who was deemed worthy of many awards from Turkey and abroad, most recently undertook both the scriptwriting and directing of the film “Rüzgarın Hatıraları” in 2015. The film was deemed worthy of the İzleyici Award at the 52nd Antalya Film Festival.
The film, which will tell the life of Cahide Sonku, means Alper’s return to the screens after seven years. Sonku’s life will be adapted to the audience by Eyüphan Erkul’s novel Cahide: Melekler Yeryüzünde Yaşayamaz. The series is expected to be released in 2021,
It has not yet been announced who will star in the series. A mini-series about Cahide Sonku’s life was shot by TRT in 1989. Rutkay Aziz, Hale Soygazi and Uğur Polat took the lead roles in the five-part TRT1 series.
Who is Cahide Sonku?
Cahide Sonku was born on December 27, 1919 in Yemen. She entered Darülbedayi at the age of 16. Sonku, who later started to work at the Istanbul City Theatre, went to the cinema with the movie “Söz Bir Allah Bir” in 1933, and in 1950 he founded the Sonku Film company, which bears her name. She tried directing with the movie “Fedakar Ana”. Sonku has the title of the first female film director and actress of Turkish cinema. Sonku, who spent the last period of her life as an alcohol addict, fell ill in Alkazar Cinema in 1981 and died at the age of 61.
