The issue of wage inequality between male and female actors has come to the fore in the agenda of the magazine lately. At this point, the news was reflected in the press that Hande Erçel wanted to be paid as much per episode as Can Yaman to take part in the El Turco series, which will be shot for Disney Plus.
We do not know how true these reports are. However, information is reflected in Turkey’s major broadcasting companies that Hande Erçel, like Can Yaman, demands a fee of 1.5 million TL per episode. There is information in the magazine news that Hande Erçel reacted to this wage inequality against male and female actors in this way and that this situation was reflected as a problem at the point of the continuation of the El Turco project, and even different projects were looked at for Hande Erçel.
Hande Erçel’s rebellion against wage inequality would be the right attitude, but since we do not have clear information that she has such a problem for the El Turco series, it would be more correct to say it as an allegation.
The fact that female actors work for lower wages than male actors is one of the problematic issues of the Turkish TV series industry.
In fact, we have seen in many instances that among the two leading actors, the male is paid more and the female is paid less. In recent years, female actors have increased their statements that draw attention to and criticize this issue. At this point, Hazar Ergüçlü expressed her rebellion in front of the cameras.
Hazar Ergüçlü, who is in the resting period and is pleased with this situation, took part in the theater play called Crocodile Fire. Hazar Ergüçlü, whom we watched last year in the lead role of the TV series Alev Alev (Fire Fire), is also in talks for new projects.
Expressing that she was looking for a good project to take part in by saying “I will work if anything happens”, the actress stated that she started to miss working.
Hazar Ergüçlü admitted that the preferences of the actors started to change with the digital projects. The actress also thinks that the conditions are moving towards a better point in television series.
Stating that it is important for the script to excite her and that the right cast is also important, Hazar Ergüçlü made the following statement on wage inequality:
“Unfortunately, this system is like that. We are working to change that, but we will always continue to demand and enforce equal pay. This is something that will happen over time. Yes, there is such an inequality.”
