Childhood years: His desire to be an actor dates back to his childhood years. “I’ve wanted this since I was little, but in my mind back then, I don’t remember why. I loved watching a play, even my hands were shaking from excitement. The first game I watched; Except for Little Black Fish, it was the Kuvayi Milliye of the Ankara State Theatre. They had come to Istanbul. I can’t explain what kind of staff it was; Deniz Gökçer, Engin Şenkan, Cevdet Arıcılar, Tijen Par… Gods were on the stage.”
Education life: After graduating from Italian High School, he completed his undergraduate education at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Department of Acting. In addition to the plays he took part in at the university, he worked as an assistant at the Semiha Berksoy Opera Foundation.
The first step into acting: He started his television adventure in 2012 with the character of “Osman”, which he portrayed in the TV series “Karadayı”.
Which project did it shine with? He attracted attention with the character of “Ali Taşkın”, which he played in the TV series “Gülperi”.
Mindset: He thinks that a healthy head and a healthy body are essential for an actor’s character.
Source of happiness: The greatest source of happiness; Job. “From a young age, I think I wanted to be on stage, to be an actor, to do theatre, from the moment I got the idea to do something, to be something when I grew up. If we do not count the initial desires to be a football player or a doctor. These were not things that I could be, I always wanted to be an actor. My family has a significant influence. Since I have an art-loving family, we often went to the games.”
First feature film: Biket İlhan/ Unfinished Miracle
His outlook on life: The most important teaching he has ever learned on acting; In addition to continuing to learn, it is necessary to be a good person and be sincere in order to be a good actor.
His view of business life: He finds it meaningless that some of those who act or write to identify their profession with the adjective “schizophrenic”. “Acting is not like that at all. Total exaggeration in my opinion. What could be schizophrenic? You play your game and then you have coffee in the trailer. For me, the act of writing is not a schizophrenic condition.”
His view on theatre: Right after graduating from the conservatory, he founded Theater D22 in 2013 with his friends from the same school, Can Kulan and Berkay Ateş. “My only dream about acting is; I want to be on the theater stage as long as I am healthy. I want to continue doing theater, to continue to struggle in this field, as long as I can, as long as I can.”
Career plan: When a project proposal comes in, he looks at the director first. “For me, the director comes first. For example, my agency said, ‘Emir, there is a project they want you to do. When they say, ‘We are sending you the script’, I say, ‘Who is playing and who is directing?’ Let’s say there is a director or actor that I do not prefer to work with in the project, but the character is enormous. I probably won’t work. Because I can’t. I can’t play the character I’m going to play as well as he wants.”
Dreaming of the Future: He dreams of a future life in a seaside town where he can live with his books, TV shows and movies. “At the same time, I have the freedom to go abroad whenever I want. I would love to have these two freedoms in my hands. I am someone who needs tranquility in order to go on living.”
How he decided to write a book: He published his first story book, “In That Uncertain Time of the Day” in 2017. “I compiled the stories that I had been writing for a while, put them in a file and gave them to the publishing house. They also found it worthy of publication. Writing will continue as one of my life’s main pursuits.”
Which movie was he influenced by: The movie he was most influenced by; According to him, Teströl Es Lelekröl (Body and Spirit) is the best movie of all time; Persona by Ingmar Bergman. The movie he enjoyed watching and watched many times is; The White Ribbon.
