Family: He was born in Mardin Kızıltepe. Her mother is a housewife, her father is a farmer. He grew up in a 4 bedroom house in a family of 10 children. “The house was always crowded. I would go away to be alone. I would sit and stand for hours like that.”
His childhood years: He was a cinema enthusiast, he never missed the Monday movies on TRT 2 and watched the art films. He learned the Turkish language in primary school. “It is forbidden to speak Kurdish at school. The teacher was talking to me in Kurdish outside, and I did not answer because I was afraid. There was an uneasy environment. Even if they say it’s dangerous outside, we were diving into the streets. A person who has spent his childhood in the west cannot understand these. After secondary school, I won Gaziantep Science High School and went to boarding school. A different culture, different behaviors. I remember a friend saying “You can’t divide this country, okay?” The first time we met. My childhood passed between different discourses. Other things were said in Antep. I saw the right and wrong sides of both sides. I tried not to make sharp sentences on either side. “
Education life: He went to primary and secondary school in Mardin and high school in Gaziantep Science High School. He graduated from Boğaziçi University Business Administration Department.
How did he start acting? His life changed when he applied for an advertisement he saw in the canteen while he was studying at the university. He was chosen as the leading actor in Semih Kaplanoğlu’s 2008 film “Süt”. “I had no dream of being an actor. Actually, I applied so that I could see behind the scenes and learn something. I can say partly luck. I was lucky that they were already looking for an inexperienced player. Other than that, of course, I was not chosen immediately. We did test shots. Let’s say they’re also factors out of luck. Frankly, I always wanted to be a director, but I had a lot of points and I chose Boğaziçi, which has a unique culture that I can improve myself. Eventually some of Turkey’s most important directors in cinema although there was BOGAZICI section. I saw that the actor was sought with an advertisement at the school and this was an opportunity to get to know the set, and that is what happened. Milk was like a school for me. Then I continued acting because a lot is learned about behind the scenes even while in front of the camera. My first film, Milk, is of course different for me as it was my first experience. I named it Feriha is also special because it is my first long-running series. I made good friends from there and learned a lot on the set. ”
First step into acting: He started his television adventure with the character “Hüseyin” in the TV series “Kasaba” (Town).
With which project did he shine? He drew attention with the character of “Mehmet Yılmaz” in the series “The Girl Named Feriha”.
Personality traits: He likes to live as he intends to, idealistic, withdrawn. “I don’t do anything unless I feel like it, I have to make sure I want to do it. I don’t let instant feelings guide me. Let’s say I like someone, I don’t take steps if I’m not sure. Or a subject comes to my mind, I say ‘I’d better write it’. There comes a moment when I really feel the need for it. Then the laziness disappears, I write for hours. ”
Mindset: He doesn’t feel like he’s producing anything, especially in shooting TV series. “While acting, there is a personal satisfaction, yes, but I don’t feel like I’m producing anything personally. The situation is worse, especially as we have to shoot and finish quickly in the TV series. If I had dreamed of acting all my life, the awards I got would have made me crazy with joy. But I did not have such ambition. I was in places that wouldn’t even cross my mind, but I wasn’t too shaken. People expect us to talk about and praise if possible about the series we play all the time. I’ve never been in that head. Because our life is not just a series. Besides, everybody knows the extent of the running times of TV series. If you spend most of the day on the TV series, you need to get away from it for the other part of your mind and mental health. But this time, you are perceived as if his nose is in the air. As long as I do my job with respect, which I try hard to do my best, this is the greatest proof that I love it. ”
First motion picture: Semih Kaplanoğlu / Süt
The look at love: Love is putting someone in the center of my life. When I’m in love, I can’t recognize myself. Although I am normally overly rational and rational, I can suddenly become the most unreasonable person in the world while in love. So you don’t know what to do. I guess I’m not romantic. Even so, my understanding of romance is different from what I fell in love with, because no one has ever described me that way. ”
His view of life: He does not have great ambitions in life, he thinks that not everyone has to be a star professionally. “Not everyone has to be a star. For example, the answers that someone who wants to be a star would give to these questions would be different. He spoke purely political, tactfully, in sentences people wanted to hear. The majority do. When they differ a little, they start to say, “There is something strange about this man.” I had my childhood in the Southeast for a long time. I come from both cultures. So I know the discourse of both sides, what they find right or wrong. It; it made me suspect everything that was dictated to me. It allowed me to look objectively from the outside. I am an apolitical person. I think there should be as many ideologies as there are people on earth. Everyone has a belief system, right and wrong. There is no point in me being involved in a system or a mold. Let’s say we agree. Do we necessarily need to be gathered under a name. Because this time the ‘us-them’ distinction will emerge. The concept of ideology is something that diverts people from each other and prevents free thinking. The prejudice that “if I am in this ideology, I should not like the other” prevents this. I witnessed a conversation at the film festival in Australia. Both are Austrian, one neo-Nazi and the other communist. They were in such an argument with jokes that I was shocked. Even though we had it, it would bleed. ”
His attitude to business life: He does not agree with the view that “every actor should play every role”. “There’s a stereotype that the actor should play every role, but it’s an argument from a very narrow perspective. For example, what do we do if the role has a text legitimizing harassment? A player can play a harasser, but a player must be able to deny a role that justifies the abuse. I can play a racist person, but I have the right not to play a role that glorifies racism. Luckily, no such role has come out so far. If there were minor problems, we fixed them. I also love comedy, but comedy is not the mold-loving genre, you have to be more elastic. Working can even reduce the naturalness of the role. That’s why I play with instinct in some roles. For some, I do research, reading and watching. Technical issues are already compulsory. Because he uses characters, people do things like going to the motor course, learning how to drive a Magirus minibus whenever necessary. Yusuf in the movie ‘Milk’ was someone who wrote poems and tried to get them published. Because I was dreaming of making movies, I understood him very well. He’s still the character I find closest to myself. ”
Career plan: After acting for a while and improving myself, he slowly wants to go behind the camera and make my own films and sit on the director’s chair. “There is no particular reason why I want to be a director. That is why a person wants to make music, why he wants to paint. This is an artistic instinct. Cinema is something that includes almost all arts. It was always fascinating to tell about events, situations and feelings with such an art form. It still is. I am not writing an autobiography, but a story in which chapters from my own life are articulated, including parts of universal problems. It changed a lot later, of course, as I grew older. The final state is standing now. In the early days, I was waiting for my own development. I didn’t want to make a movie unless I improved myself. Now I’m dealing with difficulties. Filming is a very expensive job. The struggle to find funding for your project can take years. I know that many of my director friends have struggled to turn their projects into movies for 5-6 years. For now, I made an experimental short film. While I was preparing for my second short film, the coronavirus came out. That’s why I’m on hold. If the normalization process ends, I plan to shoot my second short film. Actually, we have a movie that has not come out even though we shot it last year; School Shave. It is a tough movie, but just as it will start the festival processes, the coronavirus came out and we are waiting. Apart from that, there is another motion picture soon. Preparations for him are starting slowly. ”
The criterion of attractiveness in women: He does not have a certain criterion, he gives importance to harmony. “I can not say anything about this, I can fall in love with women who are very different from each other. I think there is something intangible and invisible in human beings and when they harmonize mutually, love begins. ”
What does he do at home? His days off the set are usually spent at home. “I exercise when I’m not lazy. I play computer games. My movie archive is intact. I watch lots of movies. I love spending time alone. Frankly, I guess I am preferably assorted. During the pandemic period, I learned how to make bread, pastry and pastry. As a person who spent most of his life at home, I was not overwhelmed. I started to think that being able to be alone is a virtue. Some of my fellow players were overwhelmed. I even told them ‘now you are learning to live like me’. ”
