Pets: She has a dog.
Family: She was born and raised in Ankara. Her mother is a director. “My mom was always behind me no matter what my decision was. Of course she gave advice and warnings. Thanks to these recommendations, I did not become too alienated when starting and doing my job. It was a prepared start for me. Looking back, I can say that my mother’s guidance reflected positively on me in my career and still does. I think I had a good childhood… I was just a neighborhood kid. I was walking around in bruises. Cycling, skateboarding, hide-and-seek… We were always looking for an adventure. So it was full. I wouldn’t have hurt either.”
Childhood years: Since childhood, she was fascinated by the world of television. “I used to watch four movies a day, sometimes more. Thanks to my mother from a very young age, I have been on the set many times. Every time I went, I would observe the actors and watch them with admiration. I think that’s when the first spark started. After graduating from university, I started studying acting and it started to feel like therapy to me. I was enjoying it immensely, there were many things that attracted me actually; It felt very nice to experience another emotion, to feel it, to be it, to empathize, to learn. I still feel that way.”
Education: Studied at Bilkent University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Communication Design.
The turning point of her life: The acting training she received after her university education changed the course of her life. “My mother was the director and I remember when I went to the sets I said, ‘I want to act too, I want to play a role’. I watched the scenes with admiration. I used to go to the set every day. Normally we live in Ankara. My mother used to come to Istanbul when she had a job. I was spending time with my mother on the set without getting bored, doing nothing, just watching. Since then, I wanted to be an actress. After entering university, I went through an unstable period. I didn’t know exactly what to do. Sometimes I wanted to do a montage, sometimes I wanted to be behind the camera. After graduating from university, I signed up for an acting workshop in Ankara. I wanted to try my luck. I wanted to see if I had the talent or if I could continue by taking the opinions of my teachers. On my first day, I said to my teachers, ‘My dream is to be an actress, but I want to learn from you whether I have the talent or not’. Because I didn’t want to waste my time in vain. Then we started for sure.”
First step into acting: In 1997, she acted as a child actress in the movie “Yanlış Saksının Çiçeği” directed by her mother.
Which project did she shine with? She attracted attention with the character of “Cemre”, which she portrayed in the TV series “Kırgın Çiçekler”.
Personal development: There are many methods she uses to improve her acting. “Actually, I am still learning. To improve myself, I read a lot of books, watch TV series and movies, go to games and get training. If there is an actor whose performance I like in a movie, I read every news interview about him and research it. How he did it, how it worked, I get information. I watch other movies in which he plays, I pay attention to everything about how he creates the character, what form he finds.”
Social: Not a social person, whe likes to spend her time outside of work at home. “My computer, movies and books are indispensable. I also like to visit historical places of Istanbul. I love Eminönü. The atmosphere of the museums and historical places there attracts my attention. When I have free time, I go to Eminönü. I find clothes and interesting things in and around the Grand Bazaar. In the world, I want to see the northern lights very much.”
Structure of mind: Things she says ‘never give up’ in her life; family, dog, reading, drawing and watching movies.
Source of happiness: She is happy with the attention of her fans. “To see that there is an audience that loves and supports you even though they don’t know you at all, to taste that love, to live, to feel their good energies and to respond to them with love can be the most beautiful and different part of being a well-known person.
First feature film: Fide Motan/ Yanlış Saksının Çiçeği
Her outlook on life: “I am in a process where I am trying to discover myself, listen to and hear my inner voice, and I am trying to accept myself as I am, for better or for worse.”
Perspective on business life: She loves her job very much. “I admire the fact that the actors can take on a completely different mood in an event that they have not experienced. Being in a life that I have not lived and cannot live in my own life affects me very much. The series “Kırgın Çiçekler” lasted almost 3.5 years. On the way to the set, I felt like I was going to school. My acting improved, I learned set math. Of course, the pace of hard work caused me to spare time for myself. It taught me how to balance it. When you look at it in general, it has added an important experience to my life in every sense.”
Career plan: She wants to portray characters who have something to teach and teach her. “When I think about it, I think the most important thing for me are the characters with strong subtext. I prefer to read all scenarios without prejudice. If the story and the character excite me and make me wonder, it’s okay for me.”
Future Dream: She wants to portray a more masculine character. The character played by Rooney Mara in the movie ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ is exactly the role of her dreams. “I would love to play a woman like that man. The fact that she is an opposite character to me affects me. It feels stronger. I’ve never been like that in my life. I am a quiet and self-absorbed person who takes it low, does not react too much even when she is wronged. Drawing may be my second love after acting. I am trying to improve myself in this field as well, and I have a dream of having a painting workshop in the future.”
Which movie was she influenced by: The movie she was most influenced by; ‘The Great Beauty’
Who she admires: “Actually, there are a lot of names that I like, but most of them are foreign names. Since I have always watched foreign movies and TV series since my childhood, my perception has always been formed in that direction. However, the first name that comes to mind as a Turkish actor is Haluk Bilginer. Sharing the same stage with him adds a lot to me, I learned a lot from him. Foreign names are Tilda Swinton, Juliet Binoche, Bennedict Cumberbacth.”
What does she do at home? A homely person, spending time at home, drawing and watching movies are among the indispensables of my spare time. “My daily routine; I start by eating my breakfast and then I sit by my drawing table. There are times when it takes almost 5 or 6 hours. It then goes on with a good movie, meal, book, and sleep.”
How she stays in shape: Sports have been a big part of my life since I was a kid. “I played volleyball and tennis for 7 years, boxed for 2 years, and now I do Pilates. I was even going to join the tennis team, but I preferred volleyball. But tennis is not in me. Mom and Dad were playing tennis. I started playing with them, too. I started playing volleyball in primary school. My best friend was playing. So I stuck with it and somehow got started. I love both sports very much because I like sports done in teams and in pairs more. I can get bored from time to time while exercising. Light and sweet competition is more beautiful when it attracts people a little more. When I do sports, I feel more vigorous and healthy, so I can say that I am good with sports. In my diet, there is no program that I pay great attention to. I try to eat little and often and make sure to drink plenty of water. I never go out without having my breakfast. I love eggs. It is both filling and a good source of nutrients. I eat every meal, I do not skip, but I consume less. I don’t restrict myself, but I keep the measure small. But water is always on my mind. Before entering the stage, I immediately ask for water. I don’t play without drinking water.”
Hobby: Painting as a hobby. “I draw while I’m waiting on set. I’m giving some away. I love drawing. I want to do this as a business in the future. Drawing has been my great savior during casting times. After a while, I really started to take my time and saw that I was starting to improve. I think anyone can do this job, you don’t have to be very talented. Yes, talent is also important, but it can be overcome with practice. I’ve been doing it for three or four years. At first I wasn’t very good, but I was enjoying it a lot. I am also thinking of opening an exhibition. But when it came to the series, I missed a bit. If I’m ever going to do anything other than acting, it’s definitely going to be about drawing.”
