STORY:
Memed is a boy who wants to read instead of wandering in the mountains and holding a gun. But his father, Mamo Ağa, tries to raise him like a warrior by taking him to the mountains by force, leaving him alone with the herd at night, confronting the things he feared. One morning, Mamo Ağa finds Memed on the mountain, at the head of his herd, next to the wolf he shot at night. Memed also wins against a black snake. Mamo believes that his son is now a valiant man. Right there he proudly gives him his new name: “Your name is now Karayılan!”
Karayılan complements the bravery he learned from his father with the knowledge and philosophy he acquired from Dergahbaşı İsmail Efendi, with whom he was a youth. Karayılan who went to the army before the First World War; He returns to his village in Antep, tired and defeated from his seven-year military service. Antep was under the occupation of the French in those years. Taking advantage of the situation, gangs roam around. Mamo asks his son to become the head of the tribe and to arm the young people and fight.
Karayılan, on the other hand, astonished his father; He says that he can no longer fight: He wants to be “Shepherd Memed”, not “Hero Karayılan”. Karayilan, who intends to be a shepherd, sees that it is not easy to implement this decision and he has to constantly choose between military service and shepherding. Although he sometimes makes mistakes in love and war, he continues to progress.
The series mainly tells the story of Memed, who decided not to take a gun, not to fight, only to act as a shepherd, to take his gun again, not to endure injustice and cruelty, and heroize the name of Karayılan by forming a National Forces movement around him.
