Benden Ne Olur? is a movie adaptation of the book of the same name by Aslı Kızmaz, starring Hazal Kaya and Onur Tuna. The movie was released last week.
Oda TV writer Özlem Kalkan also carried the film, which was liked by a wide audience, to her corner. Özlem Kalkan expressed her views on the film with the following words;
“Benden Ne Olur?” is the “cool” movie for the young audience. A local production I chose for this week. “Benden Ne Olur?” rather than a question, it is the inner manifestation of “nothing will come of this child”, which is said in a conflict with our parents as each of us grows up and goes through adolescence.
Making a movie of this manifestation; moreover, questioning a young woman going from adolescence to adulthood can make a very appropriate film? Would it be a good romantic comedy if comedy elements and love were placed in it? If it does, will it undermine the message? Or can an all-encompassing film be presented as one of the good works of Turkish cinema? Maybe it did; despite its shortcomings…
In the first part of the movie, “Benden Ne Olur? We see jobs where he tries to give answers and fails. While first working in public relations at a kebab shop, he experiences the difficulties of commuting from his flat in one end of Istanbul, which he hired because it was cheap.
Meanwhile, we see that he shares all his troubles with Enis, his inner voice that ends right under his shoulder. Although Enis causes an alienation that we are not accustomed to in Turkish films as a imaginary hero who looks bloody, he is present throughout the film as an element that helps the comedy elements and Sertab find himself. Her presence also gives Hazal Kaya, who plays the character of Sertab, a “sweet witch” air. A modern witch with no magic wand and no broom underneath.
In the meantime, although the conversations of Sertab and her older sister and the other two girlfriends and the scenes they go to have fun together are incredibly successful with the contribution of acting, they cannot get rid of the clichés of classic comedy films “girls club” or “Desperate Housewives”. Still, I can say that they have very entertaining dialogues and they caught the age in terms of scenario.
Funny and strange coincidences sometimes say “No more!” even if it makes you say, the details that exist in the weave of every romantic comedy movie; I say don’t get stuck there. Director Murat Şenöy is also a good advertiser. When the advertising and entrepreneurial spirit of both the author and the director of the book came together, the film had a very dynamic atmosphere.
Frankly, romantic comedies are not a field in which we are very successful; but despite everything, I say it’s a good job, which I watched without getting bored – despite all its shortcomings. I cannot help but add the contribution of very successful and dynamic actors in the emergence of this “good job”. Hazal Kaya, Onur Tuna, Enis Arıkan, Nur Fettahoğlu, Selin Şekerci, Tarık Papuççuoğlu, Cem Belevi, Elçin Afacan. They are all cut out for the role…”
