Family: Originally from Trabzon, he was born and raised in Istanbul. Only child. “My mother was a worker. My father ran the canteen of my school. I was a very naughty child. Whatever I did, they would go to the school canteen and say, ‘Your son did these things.’ I studied at an Italian school intertwined with art. I have always thanked my father for this. As an only child, I had a lonely childhood, but thanks to my cousins, I had a crowded childhood. I never wanted him to be my brother and it was always very difficult for me to understand the ups and downs between my mother and his siblings, for example. My family never said, ‘You should have a job like this; There is no money in this business, you can crawl, son. On the contrary, they said, ‘This is your life, you can do anything’. I gained my individuality at a very early age. The last years of high school were spent saying “let’s get it over with”. I prepared and passed the exams of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory on my own.

Childhood years: His acting adventure started thanks to his primary school teacher. At the age of 14-15, he started to earn my pocket money by joining amateur theater groups. “When you say, ‘When did you first play professionally?’, if you mean making money, I say I was 14-15 years old. My acting adventure is actually based on my primary school teacher Emine Sağlam. He was the person who ran all the theater and organizational affairs in that school. He always directed all students to social activities, and still does. The classic player will have the answer, but I was an overly mischievous and hyperactive kid. Emine said, “Don’t get involved, this child will study at the conservatory.” I have nothing to do with it, my only concern was to be a football player. Then he would always take me to the drama club, play games there, and everyone loved the naughty boy in those shows. From kindergarten to high school, I studied at the same school, Private Evrim High School. There is no Emine teacher in secondary school anymore, I saw that the classes are going badly, there is a lot of failure in the classroom… But I am still chasing the ball, I play in clubs in Beşiktaş and Dikilitaş. Then my football life ended due to health reasons. I continued theater at school again, I still have nothing to do with lessons! I loved acting, then the possibility of it being a profession created a lot of excitement, it started to be attractive. When I came to high school, I already started playing professional games in some communities. Then I entered the Theater Department of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. Since then, my life has been in my career!”

Education life: He studied at Private Evrim High School. He graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory Theater Department. “I don’t know how convincing it would be if I said I never forget a day of my five years at university, but it is. Mimar Sinan was a very good school for us, everything was very good. We always had fun, worked hard, slept in school and never wanted to go home. We didn’t really go! What can one forget in a place where we are dying to spend 24 hours anyway.”

The turning point of his career: When he was a student, he took a break from school for a year and acted the character of Aydın, the younger son of the family, Osman, in the TV series “So Bir Geçer Zaman ki”, which made him recognized by many people. “At that time, I didn’t know how well-known or famous we were because we worked so hard. When the character of Aydın died, everyone burst into tears. At that time, in order to renew my lost identity document, I went to the civil registry office with my mother the day after the scene where I died in the TV series. The person in the population directorate had asked many times, “Are you not dead?” in astonishment. That’s when we realized that everyone was very impressed. When the series was over, I went back to school even though there were so many offers for new projects. Except for a summer series called ‘Adı Mutluluk’ after school; I acted in theatre plays called ‘Tavşan Deliği’, ‘Domino’ and ‘Küheylan’.”

The first step into acting: He started his television adventure with the character of “Aydın” in the TV series “Öyle Bir Geçer Zaman ki”.

Which project did it shine with? He attracted attention with the character of “Rahmet Elibol”, which he portrayed in the TV series “Bizim Hikaye”.

Personality traits: Hyperactive, cheerful, in love with his job. “When I sit idle for three or four hours, I start thinking about what to do now. I’m a little hyperactive, but of course this is my calmed state. It is said that I am angry. I can get angry when people aren’t at my pace. I have a hard time with people who are slow and lethargic. My perception of time processes faster than most. I can get angry when I cannot manage time or feel that it is not flowing at my pace. For example, I get angry easily in traffic.”

Structure of mind: He thinks that the discussion of “is it sarcastic or conservatory” is unnecessary and behind the times. “When we look at the age we live in and evaluate it, I think it is a topic of discussion that has been left behind. I was 17 when I entered the conservatory, so I was quite young. It was more reliable for me to study at Mimar Sinan with the teachers I dreamed of in those years. And I’m glad I read it. Every moment was very productive. But now I look at it, of course I would be an actor even if I didn’t study at the conservatory. This was the path I chose, and I think that the path chosen by each actor is valid. After all, school was five years and it’s over. The rest of his acting life is already sarcastic.”

Social: In his spare time, he enjoys walking around Istanbul and chatting with people he doesn’t know.

Source of happiness: He is happy to do the job he loves. “Being able to withstand the intense work pace is actually about loving my job. Love. Much Love. It’s in love to go a little further. When you go forward, you can’t go back anymore.”

First feature film: Nihat Durak / İlk Aşk

His outlook on life: He likes to be active in life. He feels happy that he has always achieved what he wanted until this time. “I can say I’m crazy during the day, but that doesn’t mean I don’t break the rules. So far, I’ve only done what I wanted. I can say that I have never deprived myself of my wishes.”

Perspective on business life: He does not divide acting into theatre, television or cinema. He also does voiceovers. “An actor is a actor everywhere, there is no difference. I can’t describe how it feels to do theater, to be on stage, but I can say that it feels very bad when it doesn’t. Theater dance with death of course, an incredible passion for adrenaline, like jumping from a plane with a parachute, being at risk at all times and having all the responsibility on you is an incredible thing, very enjoyable. You feel alone in the world for a moment, then you feel sad. Whether the act is a comedy or a drama, the same feelings are always growing. Frankly, I wouldn’t care if the world burned down if there was a game that day. It is a kind of confrontation with the world and myself. Of course, I also have voice acting in my life. I was a kid when I started voicing! Most of my time is spent in the studio. The studio is a place that fosters my creativity and I feel very strongly secure.”

Career plan: He wants to make Short Films and act in more feature films. “I want to do more cinema. Seeing yourself on the screen is a very magical thing. Cinema is like immortality, even after you die someone will be up and watching you! This is what I say to myself from the first day of filming until the end: ‘Yagiz Can, for better or worse, don’t forget!’ I want to shoot a short film, I write and think about it in my spare time. When choosing a role, I can say that I am very attracted to the fact that the role I acted in the previous project is different in the next.”

Dreaming of the Future: “Everything in my life developed very quickly. Now I think, what can I do? For example, I would like to study at another university. Spending time abroad. But these are still distant plans for me after 30.”

Who does he admire? He has many favorite actors in the world and in Turkey. “Of course, if I count the actors I admire, whether in Turkey or in the world, it would not be over. But let me tell you, the actors I watched live on stage in Turkey are ahead of the stage performances I watched abroad. I mean acting. I think our acting talent is very advanced.”

What he dislikes the most: He gets angry quickly. “I would like to resolve this momentary anger issue. I would like not to prolong my anger within myself. Everything is slowly unraveling anyway. But what to do, it’s me and I’m happy with myself. I’m not making that a big problem.”
