The Çukur (The Pit) series is known as a very successful project and it helped Show TV to go from success to success for a while. Important names such as Aras Bulut İynemli, Erkan Kolçak Köstendil, Dilan Çiçek Deniz, Rıza Kocaoğlu, İlayda Alişan, Kubilay Aka and Ercan Kesal took the lead role in this project.
A total of 131 episodes were broadcast between 2017 and 2021, and each episode attracted millions of people to the screen. After the TV series Yabani (Wild Heart), which resembles the concept of the TV series Çukur, he is now trying to hold on to the screen with the name Kara (Arak).
There have been many posts on social media about the similarities between the Fox TV series Yabani and the TV series Kara, which has just started on Show TV. Television critic Sina Koloğlu is among those who share a similar opinion.
The series, which was initially broadcast under the name Arak, was renamed Kara in the second episode and a different atmosphere was wanted to add to the project, but we saw that this did not reflect very positively on the ratings.
According to Sina Koloğlu, there is an intersection between the two series in terms of concept. Sina Koloğlu also stated that this concept is similar to the Çukur series and made the following comment:
“In our local TV series, ‘haunted neighborhoods’ are presented in a ‘dystopian’ atmosphere.
Burning barrels at night, evil-looking women and men sitting on corners or in front of the door, smoke from an unknown source… The most striking example is; ‘Çukur’. There is no such neighborhood; Gangs everywhere, guns everywhere, people running around on the rooftops… Now there is #Yabani, for example.
Impressions of the life of street children. An abandoned place by the sea overlooking the Bosphorus, discovered by the production. They put the children here, a fire is lit, and they are wandering around in miserable clothes. The house and neighborhood where Yabani, Cesur and Asi live. The figure of a child carrying garbage, and the neighborhood residents with strange looks. The house they live in seems to have been ‘carefully’ ruined.
In the #Arak (Kara) series, the second episode of which has been published, we go to Kara’s neighborhood and past. He takes Zeynep (Öykü Karayel) to his neighborhood. It’s a dark, sooty and smoky neighborhood. There are children lighting fires in barrels, dark-faced. An uncle is on the ground, coughing badly, his lungs seem to be tearing, a wine bottle in one hand, wrapped in a blanket, the days are numbered… ‘This place is called Garip Çıkmazı, the poor live here,’ says Kara. “The fact that the neighborhood is poor, all the ‘elements’ were put together and a decoration was created.”
