When shooting started last year, the TV series Kaçış (Escape) was a production that aroused the audience’s curiosity. Engin Akyürek, who was among the first actors with the entry of Disney Plus into the Turkish market, also made an agreement for the shooting of his own story, Escape. After the actor became a partner with İrem Helvacıoğlu, the fans waited in curiosity for the news from the series, which was continued with great secrecy.
However, the series, which almost no information has leaked, has also taken an important place in terms of the brand as the first domestic series of the new digital platform Disney Plus, which started broadcasting in Turkey on June 14. The first episode of the series aired on June 14.
It was later learned that Disney Plus preferred to broadcast intermittently instead of broadcasting all episodes of Escape at the same time in order to keep the excitement high. Those who watched the first episode of Escape, which will be broadcast episode by episode, encountered a story with high excitement.
This series is not only the first TV series of the platform in Turkey, but also an important step in their careers for Engin Akyürek and İrem Helvacıoğlu. Because the two actors, who are the brand faces of Disney Plus, which started broadcasting in 42 countries at the same time, come to the fore as the lead roles in the first original domestic series.
In the TV series where Engin Akyürek plays a war correspondent, İrem Helvacıoğlu gives life to a journalist named Zeynep. Helvacıoğlu describes her character with these words: “Zeynep is very strong in the place where she lives and knows herself, as well as here. She’s an activist girl, she can handle anything, she doesn’t need anyone.”
With the shooting of the TV series he wrote in 2017 in 2021, Engin Akyürek comes to the forefront both as an actor and as the person who wrote the story.
İrem Helvacıoğlu states that they feel more comfortable on the set because her partner is also the owner of the story. Stating that their work has become easier this way, the actress said, “You are with the person who has the most knowledge on the subject, and every question you ask has an answer. But apart from that, really nice people got together. The story drew the right people together,” she says.
By the way, İrem Helvacıoğlu, referring to an event that took place on the set of the TV series, tells that the phones in the village in Gaziantep, where they shot, just like in the TV series, did not receive the phones, and therefore they had to climb the hills and talk while crouching.
The actress draws attention to the fact that similar moments in the series are actually experienced by saying, “If you climb like goats and shoot in a certain location, you have to crouch down and talk there. Because there is no moment to get up.”

The series Escape, directed by Yağız Alp Akaydın and written by Ali Doğançay, tells the story of war photographer Mehmet and a group of journalists from different countries who go to a Yazıdı village to do research.
