Family: He was born as the third child of a family that migrated from Erzincan to Ankara. He has two older sisters.
Childhood: He was a very naughty kid, but he was still successful at school. He became interested in acting during his high school years. While in high school, he played “Yunus Emre” in the theater arm and played “As You Like” by William Shakespeare. “I was so naughty that where is the tree, I’m on top. ‘I watched Tarzan and jumped off the balcony. I grew up playing on the street from morning till night. This has contributed a lot to my imagination and acting. I wouldn’t study at home, but I was very good at school. Education life: He graduated from Mimar Kemal High School in Ankara. Later, he graduated from Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, Department of Theater. In 1998, he went to America and studied at the Stella Adler acting academy in Los Angeles.
American years: He lived in America for 9 years and acted there. During his education in America, he worked in distributing pizza in the evenings, and earned his pocket money by working in other jobs. After school ends at the end of three years he returned to Turkey, he did his military service. In the meantime, when the Green Card he applied to go to America was released, he went back to America. When he left, he took on the role of “Lenny” in the play “Mice and People” staged at the Stella Adler Theater. He also believes that the person creates his own luck. “When I received an award for my first movie ‘Happiness’ in which I starred, many people said ‘How lucky you are’. However, this is not a chance. This is 10 unsuccessful years in a rehearsal for one successful year. Nobody sees it. I believe not in luck, but in the creator of it. Preparation plus opportunity equals luck. The opportunity can be up to 300 people at the same time, but success only happens to a person ready. I was ready. Nothing much has changed in my life either. I want my work and success to be discussed while I have a job. The other way is not for me. ”
His view of business life: He thinks that in order to make a good movie, there must first be a good script. He states that the first thing that affects the actor’s decision-making process is the script, and after reading the script and getting excited, it is important who he will shoot the movie. “Because the world written in the script is beautiful, but the director who will shoot it is putting the script exactly in its place. So who shot it is also important. In order for a good movie to be made, the cast must also be good. If these three elements come together, I would like to make a movie again. I have one foot in America since 1998. I live in Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, I am dealing with trade and stock market as well as acting. I’m going back to Turkey but the project agreed. Of course, the series is a great advantage for the actor, both economically and in terms of reaching a wider audience. The downside is that it cannot feed the real player too much. I can describe it this way, if the TV series are fast food, cinema is a carefully prepared dinner. ”
Career plan: He likes cinema more than television, but because he is picky about it, he can make less films. “We want a lot of movies to be made to make the industry better, but some of them are very sloppy. I’d love to act in a comedy. It doesn’t have to be a comedy movie. It could be a theater play or a sit-com. My understanding of comedy is also different. I love sitcoms. Because I believe comedy is born out of the situation. We would not laugh if a clown came and fell in front of us, but in a very serious environment, if a very important man falls, that situation seems funny to us. I believe that all comedies should be played with precision and seriousness. I am an actor who can take this care. ”
Future Dream: He wants to take a role in a Nuri Bilge Ceylan movie. “Nuri Bilge Ceylan is a director I would love to work with in cinema. I feel very close to Nuri Bilge Ceylan. I like his work very much. I really want to be in his frames. ”
Concerns: in Turkey and in the world, intolerance of people to each other, polarization and alarming finding of failure to accept their differences.
What’s the strongest and the weakest side? His weakest point is his compassion. But he also sees his compassion as his strongest side.
Who does he admire? He watches actors from Hollywood cinema such as Jean Reno, Al Pacino and Daniel Day Lewis with admiration.
