OVERALL IMPRESSION:

Courtyard series brought a lot of attention when it was aired, attracting attention with its powerful cast, the series was about the harsh, brutal and emotional lives of women struggling for life in prison. The character of Deniz, played by Demet Evgar with her performance, which was greatly appreciated by the audience in every episode, turned into a phenomenon on the screen. Likewise, Ceren Moray, who gave life to the character of Azra with her successful acting, and Nursel Köse, who played the character of Kudret, were also spoken with their acting performances that attracted attention and received great applause. The TV series Courtyard, which tells about a prison where women live and the sense of social justice, brought the struggle of women to survive with the audience. The series, which continued for 2 seasons, ended without making the final, the series was terminated even though the audience waited for the 3rd season.

STORY:

Deniz Demir (Demet Evgar) is a woman who was subjected to violence from her husband. One night, when she was subjected to violence by her husband, her daughter Ecem shot her father with a gun. Deniz takes the blame for her daughter not to go to jail and is arrested for shooting her husband. Deniz is sent to prison. In his cell, se meets Azra (Ceren Moray) and her friends. Azra, along with Kudret (Nursel Köse), is one of the two prisoners mentioned. Azra and her friends are in conflict with Kudret’s group. Headmaster Nihal (Şebnem Dönmez) is trying to manage Azra and Kudret. Deniz receives help from Azra’s group to reach her daughter, and when she searches, she comes across Nilgün, her husband’s brother (Rüçhan Çalışkur). Nilgün denounces this speech to the prison administration. Headmistress Nihal questions Deniz’s connection with Azra, searches everywhere by issuing a search warrant, but cannot find anything.

Feeling that she is having difficulty controlling Azra, Nihal takes Kudret out of solitary confinement and sends her to the block where Azra is located. Returning to the block, Kudret tries to pull Deniz into its ranks. Deniz refuses Kudret’s request. The returning Kudret plans to destroy Azra. Meanwhile, Deniz’s wife Hakan (Teoman Kumbaracıbaşı) withdraws his complaint. Shortly before her release from prison, Deniz finds herself in the fight between the groups of Azra and Kudret, and a woman from Azra’s group entrusts her child to Deniz. The prison gets mixed up during the fight. Kudret returns to her cell in a way she planned before, and ambushes Azra by making Azra follow her. Headmistress Nihal is killed by an unknown person while going to intervene in the incident.

While Deniz searches for the child she lost due to the chaos, she encounters the corpse of the Headmistress Nihal, while all the guards and prisoners will see Deniz next to the headmistress Nihal’s body. The headmistress Nihal, who was taken to intensive care, dies and the prosecutor blames Nihal’s husband Murat Deniz. Kudret tells Deniz that she can handle this situation in return for being her, but Deniz refuses again. Meanwhile, Deniz’s daughter Ecem (Eslem Akar) confesses everything and wants to save her mother, Deniz tries to reach her daughter to prevent this situation, and on the day of the meeting, Kudret locks into the laundry. Kudret also puts the headmistress Nihal’s bracelet in Deniz’s cell, the guard Murat, who noticed that his wife’s belongings were missing at that time, informed the administration of this situation and asked for a search, Nihal’s bracelet was found in Deniz’s cell. Deniz, who is accused of killing Headmistress Nihal, is brought to court. The prosecutor demands that Deniz be tried with aggravated life.

Courtyard series, which draws attention with its ambitious production, was shot on the giant prison plateau in Ümraniye district of Istanbul.

A small prison-format shooting studio was established in Istanbul in order to shoot the courtyard series in a realistic way. On the plateau in the shape of a prison model, all the areas in a real prison were located.

The Courtyard Karakuyu Prison was located on an area of 4,500 square meters. When the decoration was started to be created, 240 cubic meters of concrete was used to level the floor in Ümraniye. Two tones of paint were used in the construction of the plateau, which was set up to give the prison theme cooler. For the outer walls of the courtyard, 2 thousand meters of barbed wire was used in indoor and outdoor areas. For the construction of the walls, 200 square meters of ytong walls were built.

Located in the Ümraniye district of Istanbul, this shooting plateau has become one of the most curious places by the people around and the fans of the series. The plateau, called Karakuyu Prison, is also known as Ümraniye Courtyard and was frequently visited by the fans of the series.
