Yabani (The Wild) TV series met with the audience last week. After the first episode was broadcast on Tuesday evening, September 12, there were many posts about the series on social media.
Viewers were greatly impressed by a scene within the story of the series. The words of the character Neslihan, played by Dolunay Soysert, were remembered and were meaningful in terms of revealing the main idea of the series.
The character of Neslihan, who portrays a rich woman giving a speech at a charity night in the scene with the theme of supporting street children, actually shed light on one of the most important problems of today’s world.
Neslihan Soysalan is a rich woman, but she also carries out important activities to help street children. However, the story of the series also gives a very important message that fits the current social reality.
Neslihan character says in her speech: “Who are we protecting from whom? A street kid asked me this question last night. “Are you protecting us from the streets or are you protecting the streets from us?” she said. I could not answer. Is there anyone among you who can answer? That’s what I predicted. What are we doing for God’s sake? Last night, this boy, my son, was in a bad situation and he brought him home, safe and sound. I didn’t even say thank you.
Did you do it, son? Neither did I. But I offered money, to ease my conscience. Because I was worried about paying him back for his service and sending him away from home as soon as possible. I wanted to keep my children away from him. Just like he said, I wanted to protect myself and my children from him, not him from the streets. However, he helped us.
We have to accept a fact now. None of us care about these children. We are just trying to ease our conscience. We don’t want these children to walk around us on the streets. We do all this for him. “We are all hypocrites.”
