WHO IS HÜLYA GÜLŞEN?
Hülya Gülşen is a Turkish theatre, film and television actress born on September 14, 1965 in Ankara. She is best known for playing Gülsüm Ana in “Yeraltı” and for her legendary theatre career.
FAMILY AND EDUCATION
Hülya Gülşen was born in Ankara into an artistically inclined household where classical music was often played. Thanks to her extraordinary talent for theatre, she was admitted to Ankara State Conservatory at age 13 through a special exam, far earlier than the usual entry age, and completed her conservatory, high school and university equivalency in just four years.
CAREER BEGINNINGS
At 17, Gülşen became one of the youngest actresses in the history of the State Theatres. Although she could not formally join the civil service staff until reaching the required age, her professional stage career continued without interruption, performing as many as three matinees a day in both children’s and adult plays on weekends.
BREAKTHROUGH
Turkey first came to know Gülşen through the groundbreaking series “Ferhunde Hanımlar,” and she went on to become one of the screen’s most beloved faces through the 11-year run of “Bizim Evin Halleri.” However, her true artistic turning point has always remained the theatre stage, where she became a living legend performing in sold-out shows for enormous 1,500-seat venues.
RECENT WORK
Gülşen most recently drew attention performing alongside her daughter, Naz Çağla Irmak, in the play “Romeo ve Juliet,” and completed a season playing Sakine Çayırlı in “Hudutsuz Sevda.” She currently plays Gülsüm Ana in “Yeraltı.”
