Turkish dramas are great abroad, but not at Emmys!

Turkish TV series have shown such a great rise in the last 10 years that they have become one of the most watched productions in many countries of the world. A large number of Turkish TV series were broadcast in many countries.

Along with the TV series, famous actors also reached people from different cultures abroad. TV series featuring celebrities such as Kıvanç Tatlıtuğ, Tuba Büyüküstün, Songül Öden, Engin Akyürek left their mark on a period. Then the youth took over from them. The fact that Can Yaman continues his career in Italy today was a reflection of this. Young talents such as Ebru Şahin, Akın Akınözü, Demet Özdemir, Özge Gürel, Serkan Çayoğlu, Hande Erçel, Kerem Bürsin have also strongly represented our country abroad in recent years.

Turkish series can break ratings records on television channels in many countries of the world. Why is Turkey, one of the most important countries exporting TV series, not taking part in the Emmy Awards with any of its TV series? Sina Koloğlu, one of the writers of Milliyet who asked this question, shared an important detail.

“We are the most important country in the export of TV series in the world. It is contradictory that country dramas and actors with such a feature are not included in the Emmys. It is thought-provoking that not even a single Turkish series could be nominated this year at the ‘International Emmy’ of the industry’s most prestigious award.”

Everyone was very happy when Kara Sevda was chosen as the best TV series in 2017. We were proud when Haluk Bilginer won the best actor award with Şahsiyet. However, no production from Turkey, which exports very important TV series every year, is not at the Emmy Awards this year.

Sina Koloğlu asked the experienced names of the market about this situation and the answer he received was thought-provoking. Here is the noteworthy part of Koloğlu’s article:

“I asked the experts in the market about the situation. “There are too many political games being lobbied. It has an effect,” they said. So, do we have any mistakes? “There have been a lot of adapted series lately. The original work has gone down,” they say. India and Israel stand out. “I guess they are the new stars of the market” comment came.
